| michel has finally reached the city of
"dera ghazi khan" where he is staying at the salimar hotel room# 213, tel: +92
64 164 283. from quetta where he was stuck for some 10 days while waiting for spare parts for good old susie (the bike), he cycled south east via sibi to jacobabad and from there north west via punjab to dera ghazi khan, which he believes is about 4-5 days (on the bike) south west of lahore near the indian border. michel was mentioning the 10 day ride from quetta to dera ghazi khan was really tough and not exactly without danger either. stretches of the road were nothing but a sea of mud, and it was just impossible to ride or at parts even push the bike, leaving him no option but to shoulder bike and luggage! the region, infamous for its smuggling activities and with its various seperatists and fanatic groups is not the safest place either, on one part he was only allowed to travel through by the means of a huge army convoy with headed by tanks, with trucks and pick-ups equipped with machine guns etc. he sounded rather relieved to have reached dera ghazi khan, a "clean" and civilized place, he was mentioning. "i will stay here for 2 days, mostly in the shower cleaning out / off all the mud and relax a bit before heading for lahore". from lahore he is likely to leave the bike and take a bus ride up to slamabad where he will have to get his indian visa, probably spending christmas up there. he is dreaming of a nice cheese fondue, swiss cervelat wurst & chocolate, its him michel! |
